AWARDS

1939 Awarded the First Govt. Scholarship for further studies. 1999 Received `Abanindra Puraskar`. Documentary film made on him, Doordarshan Kendra, Inforamtion Centre, Govt. of West Bengal.

STYLE

Maniklal Banerjee was an eminent water colourist. He is well-known for his paintings on silk, and he was specialised in imparting a silky feel to his paintings. He was mainly inspired by tradition, the rural life of Bengal, nature, Indian ideologies, philosophical aspects, Tantric and Vedic themes. Harmony of colours, compositions and sensitivity were the most fascinating features of his artistic creations. His control of colours and lines made him a perfectionist in his own style.

1939-77 Lecturer, Department of Indian Art, Govt. College of Art and Craft, Calcutta. 1979 Visiting Professor at IKS Viswavidyalaya, Kairagarh, Madhya Pradesh.
