BEGINNINGS

Born in Attingal, Kerala. 1961-92 Written and illustrated about fifty childrens picture books published in India, Japan, England and USA. 1972-82 Designed several stamps for the Deptt. of Post and Telegraph, Govt. of India. 1978, 80 Received Noma Award for picture book illustrations, Japan. 1982, 88, 95 Visited Bangladesh, Korea, Papua New Guinea respectively, as an expert of the International Mobile Team of UNESCO, to conduct workshops of childrens picture book illustrations and literacy materials. 1986 Participated as a key-note speaker in the 20th Congress of the International Board on Book for Young People, Tokyo and Japanese Board on Book for Young People, Oita. Also participated in the International symposium on Future of Childrens Books, Tokyo. Visited USSR, Poland, France and China on cultural exchange programmes. 1993 Chairman, Kerala Lalit Kala Akademi, Kerala. 1997 Documentary film made on him by K. Bikram Singh. 1998 Member, Indira Gandhi National Centre
